The Position

The role of Software Development is focused on developing innovative bespoke software solutions to meet the needs of the business. He/ She will play an integral role in developing, enhancing and maintaining product configuration and document generation software. There is a certain degree of creative freedom to identify and utilise the best methods, practices, tools and techniques.

The successful candidate will be a pro active, self-starter with a proven track record of success in delivering creative and innovative software in a business environment. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a technology-related or computing-specific degree who is passionate about technology, creative, enthusiastic, energetic, and has a can-do attitude. The role will tackle the following elements:

Work with the Engineering Director, Proposals Manager and Engineering team to both understand user requirements and engineering rules.
Work with the Group IS Manager in the design and developments of software solutions and on the appropriate selection of technologies, tools, practices and methods
Work with the IS Department with respect to deployment of solutions.
Maintain awareness of current technology trends and issues related to software development
Produce appropriate design, code and user documentation.
Enhance and maintain the current Product Configurator and Document generation tool.
Develop the Product Configurator and Document Generator tool producing costing, proposal and CAD (3d CAD) documents. With the emphasis on separation of business and control logic, maintainability, accessibility and stability. Using a client server model. The client GUI will be web application based.

Core Skills

Preferably hold a degree or equivalent computing / technology qualification & 2 years experience of software development within a business environment.
Strong Java, C#, .NET and Visual Basic (VBA) with a thorough knowledge of Object Oriented software programming techniques
Development process tools: IDE's, compilers, debuggers, version control systems etc. (VStudio)
Experience of relational databases and data access (SQL) & GUI design
·Basic HTML, CSS and Web application development
Dynamic, creative and enthusiastic approach with excellent communication & presentation skills.

Desirable Skills or Knowledge Of

·Knowledge of rule based programming and Expert Systems (CLIPS, XpertRule).
·Relational database design
·Data modelling (XML)
·Web application development (Visual WebGui, Google Web Toolkit, Ajax frameworks, ASP.NET)
·Knowledge of application servers, ORM frameworks (LINQ , Hibernate), agile development techniques including Unit testing, operating systems and basic admin e.g. Linux, Windows Server
